A joint Bahrain-Qatar insurance company was established in Doha yesterday, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced.

BCCI chairman Dr Essam Fakhro sealed the deal with his Qatari counterpart Shaikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani.

The newly-established firm specialises in insurance fees levied on cars crossing the planned causeway linking both the countries.

The founder Bahraini members are United Insurance Firm, Bahrain National Holding Company, Solidarity, Bahrain-Kuwait Insurance Company, Takaful International Insurance Company, Axa Gulf for Insurance.

The founding Qatari members are, Qatar Authority, Military Pension Fund, General Organisation for Pension, Qatar Insurance Company, Qatar Company for Insurance and Re-insurance, Islamic Insurance Company, Doha Insurance Company and Al Kut Insurance Company.

Shaikh Nawaf bin Mohammed bin Jabr Al Thani chaired the first meeting of the new joint insurance venture.
