Sainsbury’s Home Insurance warns of flood risks

Homeowners are being urged to make sure they have adequate insurance in place as the weather takes a turn for the worse and fierce storms hit large parts of the country.Sainsbury’s Home Insurance says it expects to see a large increase in the number of claims being made as a result of bad weather over the coming weeks.Last summer’s floods cost an estimated 3 billion in damage claims and with more extreme weather predicted this year homeowners would be wise to check their level of cover.Steve Johnson, head of home insurance at Sainsbury’s, explained: %26quot;Some home buildings policies work on a sum-insured basis rather than offering unlimited cover. As such, people need to be careful that their home is adequately insured.%26quot;Halifax Home Insurance is issuing a similar warning to homeowners in flood prone areas and advises those concerned about flooding to opt for unlimited buildings cover to protect against the most extreme damage.
